A queen find she can't contain her ice powers and accidentally freezes her kingdom. Her sister rushes to help her meeting a group of helpers, while her fiancee runs things back home. Fear of the queen grows in the kingdom as it becomes apparent she cant stop herself, but her sister works to help her out.
I admit me and my friends felt slightly above the intended age group when we filed into the cinema. It was choc a bloc tiny children. It was quite fun watching with them though, as suddenly everything is funny and every plot twist is met with gasps. The applause at the end was cute.
The opening sequence was really beautiful. It seems to set a type of music for the film, which is then never used again which confused me. Instead we turn to pop songs, which personally I am less keen on but the kids seemed to love. The animation was pretty spectacular, but I admit I think it didn't achieve spine tingling images, such as the lanterns all lighting in Tangled. Still pretty impressed though.
The characters were more likable than expected, I had no idea I could warm to what appeared to be an annoying toothy snowman. By the end he reminded me of nothing so much as Sid the Sloth from Ice Age. This is a good thing. Even the trolls didn't annoy me which was surprising.
I was impressed with the story line. It was nice to watch a film for little girls that did not rely on a love story.
Me complaint (there is always one) was that the problem (the big freeze) was resolved very quickly. There was no realization or thought process, just a bit of an 'ah ha!' moment. But apart from that I really enjoyed it.
Its good fun and well worth a look. Stay until the end of the credits if you want to see where the queens tiara went.
